The Moon Was My First Teacher
I am Eleanor Marlowe — born in an old lighthouse village on the coast of Cornwall, England. My grandmother was the last "moon midwife" in our parish. Every birth in her notebook was logged precisely against the phase of the moon and the tide that night. From a young age she would tell me: "You were born on a Waning Gibbous, so you will always be a teacher."
I studied mineralogy and cultural anthropology at UCLA, then spent six years as a prehistoric jewelry researcher at the Getty in Los Angeles. In 2018 I began translating my grandmother's notebook into English, and to my astonishment her "moon × mineral" pairings aligned in 70% of the details with Native American shamanic, Japanese Shinto, and Indian Ayurvedic traditions.
"What we wear is never neutral. It carries energy."
In early 2024, I made the first batch of moon-phase bracelets at the oak table in my home studio — only as gifts for women friends. One of them wore the New Moon bracelet through the hardest divorce of her life. Her words made me decide: turn this into a brand.
LUNEBORNE is not fashion — we make ritual. Every piece corresponds to one phase, one stone pairing, one stage of life. When you put it on, I hope you remember: you are not alone. The Moon has been with you all along.
